Meet Your Learning Facilitator
Dr. Yabome Gilpin-Jackson
Dr. Yabome Gilpin-Jackson (she/her/hers) is a multiple award-winning organizational development leader and scholar who centers equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in all she does.
She is a proud African-Canadian who was born in Germany, grew up in Sierra Leone, and completed her studies in Canada and the USA. She is a scholar-practitioner in the areas of Leadership/Organization Development, executive & Board coaching, facilitation and subject matter expertise in social change and justice consulting related to systemic equity, diversity and belonging.
Throughout her career, which has spanned the public, private and non-profit sectors, she has helped people and organizations build capacity for transformational change. In addition to many academic peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, she has published Her publications include, Transformation After Trauma, The Power of Resonance, co-editor for the 2022 Palgrave Handbook of Learning for Transformation, the We Will Lead Africa book series and short story collections about global African experiences: Identities, Ancestries, Destinies. In addition to being Founder and Principal at SLD consulting, she has served in Executive Leadership roles within the British Columbia Public Sector.
Yabome has volunteered as a mentor with the 1834 Fellowship Program focused on mentoring high-potential Black Canadian youth. Dr. Gilpin-Jackson’s community-centered leadership recognitions include International African Woman of the Year from Women4Africa in 2017; Harry Jerome Award for Professional Excellence, 2018; Illuminessence Fem-Leader Award recipient (2018); BC Business: Women of the Year: Equity and Inclusion Champion (public nomination) – runner-up, 2021; Canada’s Top 100 Women to Watch Honoree by Canada International Black Women of Excellence, 2022; 100 Accomplished Black women Honoree, 2024.
When asked about her work in the world, Yabome describes it as “developing our human capacity to be, think and do things differently and better.” If you ask what she is best known for, she will tell you, her wicked laugh!
